The Participants:

Mario Moreno“I was born in Bogota, Colombia and immigrated to New York in 1963. For over thirty-five years my parent’s were hard working factory workers. That was their American dream.I dropped out of college and auditioned at Circle in the Square Theater School in NYC. I got in, graduated and my first job was as an understudy in a hit off-Broadway play directed by John Malkovich. I eventually became a principal in that run that lasted over a year.

The passion and commitment needed to sustain an acting career waned. I studied print production and graphic design and have worked for some of the largest advertising agencies in the world.
I started writing, producing, and acting in my own one-act plays years later.

After twenty-five years of living in Manhattan and Brooklyn, I’ve moved to Santa Fe to breathe new life into the passion and commitment that’s been dormant all these years.
Currently, I’m acting in a play at The Santa Fe Playhouse and have written a short one-act that will be stage read as part of their Benchwarmer’s series.”

She has shown her work in many group and solo exhibitions over the past thirty years, nationally and internationally.
About her most recent book, published by Radius Books in 2007, she writes, “Mapping Wateris a new type of memoir based on an evolving language of words and images that suggest the ephemeral threads of collective and individual memory that weave the elemental fabric of our common human experience.”Ms. Tuwaletstiwa was born in Los Angeles, California in 1941. She received her B. A. in English Literature, concentrating on the English Medieval period, from the University of California at Berkeley in 1962. She received her M.A.T. in English Literature from Harvard University in 1963.She lived in Northern California for thirty years, pursuing her art while raising four children. In 1993, she remarried and moved to the Hopi Reservation in Northern Arizona where she and her husband, Phillip, lived for twelve years. Presently, they reside in Galisteo, a village in northern New Mexico.

Of landscape, Ms. Tuwaletstiwa writes: “In this vast desert, a thin membrane separates the daily world and the world of the spirit. This elemental landscape continually reminds one of the fragility and tenacity of life. It holds a deep reservoir of the unconscious.”

Of her art, she writes: “Art is an act of devotion: having faith that meaning will evolve out of the making. Devotion asks for discipline, freely given. My work is to integrate the dark and the light into a harmonious whole that speaks directly to the soul.”
